Nearly 60 men answered the call to put their health first as the Bob and Rita Marley foundations hosted a prostate cancer awareness and screening initiative at Tuff Gong International Studios on Wednesday.

Held in recognition of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the initiative brought men together for an important conversation about their health, while providing access to prostate cancer screening facilitated by Windsor Wellness Centre.

Medical Director of Windsor Wellness Centre, Dr Alfred Dawes and Consultant Urologist Dr Kamal Mars engaged participants in an informative discussion on prostate cancer, the importance of early detection, and the need for men to take a more proactive approach to their overall health and wellbeing.

Among those who participated was Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and producer Stephen Marley, who joined the men being screened, reinforcing a simple but important message: health is wealth.

The screening introduced participants to TropIQA, an innovative prostate health testing technology designed to make the screening experience more comfortable and accessible. With no fingers and no needles, men were able to complete their screening through a simple, pain-free process, helping to remove some of the discomfort and apprehension traditionally associated with prostate examinations.

Lecia-Gaye Taylor, general manager and legal counsel for the Bob Marley Group of Companies, shared that the turnout was particularly encouraging and reinforced the importance of creating accessible spaces where men feel comfortable prioritising their health.

“It was encouraging to learn that technology has evolved to make prostate cancer screening a more comfortable experience for our men. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of men who came out and chose to put their health first. It shows us that when we create the right environment, provide access and have these important conversations, our men will show up.”
