Munro, Ferncourt book second-round spots

Former champions Munro College and Ferncourt High booked their spots in the second round of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition after wins over deCarteret College and Discovery Bay High, respectively, on Monday.

Munro College confirmed their place in the second round from Zone D after beating deCarteret College 3-0 at home on Monday. Izion Frazer scored twice and Kajay Williams secured the other goal as Munro College cruised to a sixth-straight win and improved to 18 points.

Ferncourt High blanked Discovery Bay High 7-0 to take over the lead in Zone C with 15 points, two more than Brown’s Town High who had earlier booked their place in the second round.

BB Coke moved into a three-way tie for second place in Zone D on 12 points after beating Black River High 3-0, joining losers Lacovia High on points.

Second-round qualifiers Yallahs High lost their perfect record in the daCosta Cup after being beaten 2-0 by Morant Bay High in Zone H.

Morant Bay ended their first-round schedule on 11 points and in second place, one point behind Yallahs High who have a game in hand, while Paul Bogle High and Happy Grove are both on seven points each.

In Lucea, Omarion Jemmison scored seven goals and Micheal Fogah scored four as Rusea’s High ran roughshod over Grange Hill High 21-0 in their Zone B game.

The win took Rusea’s High to 12 points, one behind zone leaders Frome Technical, while Green Island High beat Petersfield High 3-0 to join Knockalva Technical in third place.

Foga Road High took over the lead in Zone E after beating Bellefield High 2-1, moving to 12 points, one more than Mile Gully High and Porus High, who hammered Cross Keys High 10-1.

Today, Irwin High and St James High will meet in a clash of zone leaders, with goal difference separating them. Both have 12 points from four games, and a draw would see both advance.

A win for either school would, however, open the door for third-placed Muschett High, who are on six points and will host Spot Valley.
