Worker killed at MoBay airport project employed by subcontractor — CCECC

KINGSTON, Jamaica — China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Jamaica Limited (CCECC Jamaica) has clarified that the construction worker who died following an incident at the Sangster International Airport Terminal Expansion Project was employed by one of its subcontractors, Frontier Gateways LLC.

The incident occurred during the early hours of October 2, 2026, while work was being carried out at the terminal expansion project in Montego Bay.

In a statement on Monday, CCECC Jamaica said the incident occurred during steel-structure works being undertaken by Frontier Gateways, which had been contracted to carry out steel-structure installation at the project.

According to CCECC Jamaica, Frontier Gateways is responsible for managing how those installation works are carried out, including the day-to-day supervision of its personnel.

“The deceased worker was neither employed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Jamaica Limited nor in an employment relationship with the company,” CCECC Jamaica said.

The company extended condolences to the worker’s family, colleagues and others affected by his death.

CCECC Jamaica also said it will cooperate with the relevant authorities as investigations into the incident continue.
