ICE continues to nab Caribbean nationals in nationwide crackdown on voter fraud

WASHINGTON, United States (CMC) — The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency says Caribbean nationals are among several foreign nationals arrested or investigated in connection with alleged voter fraud and election-related offences.

In a statement on Friday, ICE said the cases form part of a nationwide crackdown on illegal voting and include individuals who allegedly registered to vote or cast ballots unlawfully in US elections.

The agency identified nationals of Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba and the Bahamas, along with individuals from Guatemala, India, Liberia, Canada, Russia, Nicaragua, Ghana, Peru, the Philippines and Mexico.

“Secure elections protect our nation’s sovereignty and Americans’ sacred right to vote,” said ICE Public Affairs Assistant Director Micah Bock.

“We have uncovered hundreds of cases of election fraud and the extent of this problem continues to expand,” he added.

Bock said the crackdown reflects the Trump administration’s commitment to addressing what he described as immigration policies that had undermined election integrity.

Among the cases highlighted was that of Jamaican Lawrence Cole, who ICE said had previously been convicted of felony drug offences.

The agency alleged that Cole voted illegally in the 2004 and 2008 general elections, as well as the 2008 presidential primary.

ICE also identified Cuban Carlos Javier Alamo-Sorino, who is currently in custody. It said Alamo-Sorino, who was paroled into the United States during the Obama administration, had previous convictions for sexual offences, robbery, larceny and harassment.

According to ICE, he admitted to voting illegally in an election.

Haitian Cliff Medgy Sanon was also named. ICE said Sanon, who has a conviction for receiving stolen property and is subject to a final removal order, voted in the 2022 election.

In another case, the agency alleged that Anthony Tyrone Higgs, a lawful permanent resident originally from The Bahamas, voted illegally in a 2020 election.

ICE said Higgs has previous convictions for armed robbery, grand larceny, domestic violence, assault and resisting arrest.

The agency said the cases represent only a portion of its ongoing investigations and arrests involving alleged election-related offences.

It added that federal authorities would continue pursuing voter fraud investigations as part of efforts to safeguard the integrity of US elections.
