Organisers say bar worker died after ‘collapsing’ at Scream Halloween Festival
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Organisers of the Scream Halloween Festival have confirmed the death of a bar worker at the event held at Mas Camp in Kingston on Saturday night.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the organisers claimed the worker was rushed to hospital after collapsing but later died.
According to the statement, paramedics responded immediately after being alerted to the incident and provided medical assistance before the worker was transported to hospital.
“Despite these efforts, we are deeply saddened to confirm that he later passed away,” the statement said.
The organisers said they have since met with the deceased’s family, his employer and security personnel as they seek to provide support and address the circumstances surrounding the incident.
They also maintained that the necessary safety checks and inspections had been conducted by the relevant authorities before the event.
“We take matters of safety and well-being extremely seriously. We wish to emphasise that all necessary checks and inspections were conducted by the relevant authorities prior to the event to ensure that the environment was safe for all staff members to carry out their duties,” the statement said.
The organisers confirmed that the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the worker’s death.
They said they are cooperating fully with the police and urged the public to refrain from speculation while the investigation continues.
“We understand that emotions are heightened and that there is considerable speculation surrounding the incident. However, we respectfully ask that the relevant authorities be afforded the time and space necessary to conduct their investigations and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement added.
The organisers also extended condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and colleagues.
The identity of the deceased and the cause of death were not disclosed in the statement.
