It’s the thought that counts
It’s the season for giving, and not everyone has the cash to splurge on expensive gifts. They say it’s not the gift, but the thought that counts, and below readers share the most thoughtful gifts they’ve ever received or given to their mates.
Kenroy, 43:
I tried my hand at cooking pot roast pork one Sunday for my girlfriend. It was my first time cooking it and it was her birthday and I wanted to surprise her with dinner when she came to my house. I was busy doing so many things that day, trying to make things perfect, that I burnt the pork and the potato salad had a funny taste to it. She laughed at my effort but said it was very sweet of me to do it. And believe it or not, she ate what she could eat off the plate. I had to take her out for frozen yoghurt to put a pleasant end to the occasion. I would do it again because I know she loves that sort of thing.
Leonid, 28:
I haven’t received anything homemade but I have made things for my exes – things such as cards, calendars, CDs and so on. And they are usually received with open arms. They always look forward to what they might be getting.
DJ, 38:
I work as a carpenter and I surprised my girlfriend with a bedhead that I made for her with her name engraved in it. She loved it then and still loves it now.
Debbie-Ann, 36:
I recall an ex of mine giving me a few things he made and every time he did it, it melted my heart.
