I hate the taste of water
Dear Donovan,
I have never been able to tolerate water in its pure form, but I understand the need to keep hydrated. I think pure water tastes bad. I can drink cran water sometimes, but what I’ve been doing is to dilute fruit juices to ensure that I stay hydrated. What could be the root of my problem? I have tried water with lime, but I don’t like that either. How can I ensure that I get an adequate supply of water, when I can’t stand the taste of water?
Water is the most abundant substance in our body. By mass, the average adult human body is approximately 75 per cent water. Water is very important for the proper functioning and health of our bodies. We need water to keep our body hydrated and regulate our body temperature. In addition, water helps to flush potentially dangerous toxins from our body. It is also a major component of blood which carries nutrients, minerals, proteins, hormones, etc, around the body.
Overall, all the chemical reactions which occur in the body take place in the presence of water. It should be noted that water is so crucial to the body that being even two per cent dehydrated can seriously affect our physical and mental functions. Being 15 per cent dehydrated can be fatal. Water is also important for fat loss and fitness. In addition, if a person becomes dehydrated it will reduce his ability to exercise and burn calories. Also, dehydration of the body reduces its ability to build and repair muscle tissues. It should be noted that the yellowish colour of the eyes could suggest that you need to drink more purified water.
People who want to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight should drink plenty of water. Water can fill you up without adding extra calories. In your situation you do not like the taste of water, hence you have resorted to drinking diluted fruit juice or cranberry water. However, your body does need purified drinking water. Adding juices to your water could add extra calories to your diet and increase your weight.
It is therefore important that if you are not drinking pure water, you should try to get your water from substances that are as low in calories and are as healthy as possible. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables will definitely help with your water intake. In addition, drinking unsweetened teas as well as adding all natural flavours to your water could be helpful. Also, a wonderful choice is to add some coconut water to your diet. It should be noted that water from fruits, vegetables, coconut, etc, is usually termed as organic water. This is very compatible to the water in and around the cells of your body. Filtering your water might also help to make the water more palatable. However, whatever you do, make sure that you get your daily requirement of water.
