Confessions: My ex wasn’t the crazy one, I was
MANY of us who enter new relationships are told stories about how ‘crazy’ our new mate’s exes were, and if you’ve been around long enough, these stories become strangely similar — the ex was jealous, a stalker, obsessive, wicked, a cheater… you name it. And you’ll sometimes sit for hours with the new man or woman trashing his or her ex — the one they were lucky to get away from.
And sometimes, only after you break up and he or she starts describing you as the ‘crazy’ ex, do you realise that you were merely a pawn. Only then would you become aware that it wasn’t really the ex that was the problem.
What are some of the lies people have told their significant others about their exes?
Sabrina:
I was in a financial bind and desperately needed some cash. I told my boyfriend that my ex emptied my bank account and I didn’t have any money to send my daughter back to school. I got the money and my boyfriend was ready to get the police involved, but I convinced him that I could handle it.
MD:
I didn’t want my current girlfriend to know that my ex left because I cheated. So I told her that we broke up because she was mean and wicked, a money grabber and was full of herself.
Sasha-Gaye:
My boyfriend is very conceited and thinks he’s the best at everything. He always wanted to know about my past sex life. I eventually got annoyed. To satisfy his ego, I told him that my ex was terrible in bed and that he (my boyfriend) was the best I ever had. But the truth is, it was actually the other way around.
Poochie:
My ex and I would hook up every now and then when my man was away. One time he came back early and I had a hickey. When he asked about it, I told him that my ex hit me and left the bruise. It’s a good thing he didn’t know my ex.
Oneil:
I dated this girl once, but I didn’t tell her I had a child. My baby mother stopped at my house to get money for my son and my girl came and saw her leaving. I told my girlfriend that she was trying to push the child on me because she wanted money from me. She eventually found out the truth.
Camille:
My boyfriend saw my ex calling me and demanded to know why he was calling. I told him that we had to meet up for work-related stuff. Truth is, we were trying to rekindle old flames. I wasn’t entirely happy with my new guy.
Eric:
I told my girlfriend, now my wife, that my babymother was evil and was trying to keep my child away from me. I also told her that she had lied when she claimed that I had been abusive and was a drinker and a smoker. I had forgotten all that until recently when my wife and I had a fight, and she blurted out that my ex was right about the particular way that I hit women. She also said she now realised that I was the one who initially had no interest in the child and was only lying to make myself look good.
