Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit on tomorrow

THE 2016 Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit  is scheduled for tomorrow at the Jamaica Conference Centre.

The summit is being held to recognise Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) and to celebrate, support and empower women entrepreneurs. The theme is ‘WE Matter – Let’s Amplify’.

Speakers will include Fayval Williams, minister of state in the Ministry of Finance; Patricia Francis, who has recently returned from her stint as lead coordinator on the United Nation’s secretary general’s task force for women’s economic empowerment; and the DBJ, whose interest in this endeavour is through their trust to building and developing the MSME segment and women entrepreneurs.

Thalia Lyn, who is serving as WED patron for the third consecutive year, will share a ‘5 in 4’ message on behalf of Michael Lee Chin and the Economic Growth Council.

There will be the celebration of 11 growth-oriented women entrepreneurs who just completed the infoDEV WINC Accelerator Programme; and a fireside chat with Dion Johnson, a UK-based celebrated women’s leadership expert who is of Jamaican parentage, and who has overcome significant challenges facing the world with facial disfigurement from birth to be recognised as a leading and transformational executive coach.

Following will be a Table Talk with five women entrepreneurs who will be sharing the ways in which they are amplifying to seize economic power for themselves and their families.

“Our message is clear. Contribution by women entrepreneurs and women in business is critical to growing the economy of Jamaica. So we’re doing our part to build an enabling ecosystem where women can be supported and enabled to fulfil their purpose. Ultimately WE matter is a WEE (Women Economic Empowerment) matter,” said A Cecile Watson, WED ambassador for Jamaica and regional ambassador for the Caribbean.
