Keeping-motivated on your FITNESS JOURNEY
KEEPING motivated on the fitness is journey is critical to achieving your goals as it’s very easy to become demotivated especially if you do not see results quickly enough.
But in order to keep motivated, Gisel Harrow, personal trainer at Gymkhana, said you should consider the following:
1. Sign up at a gym or join an aerobics class
Harrow said this will allow you to meet people with similar goals who will understand your struggles and push you to remain focused.
2. Sign up with a personal trainer
“He or she will give you the push you need and help you at a professional level to achieve your goals,” she said.
3. Set goals that are realistic and attainable in small increments
Doing this will cause you to avoid overexerting yourself. Realistic goals attainable in a short period of time will cause you to be proud of what you’re doing and want to continue.
4. Make a playlist of your favourite songs
Harrow explained that listening to music while working out takes away from the perceived difficulty of the task and causes you to power through workouts more easily.
5. Buy some fun and fashionable gym wear
“You will feel more confident walking into the gym. This will give you a reason to go and work out even if you’re not feeling up to it,” she said.
6. Invite a friend to join you
Harrow said having people who share your interest and have the same fitness goals will propel you to continue as they will keep you accountable.
7. Don’t be hard on yourself
The personal trainer said it is important to appreciate all the stages of your journey and stay focused on the bigger picture instead of being too critical of your shortcomings.
