Remember: Be Heart Safe
HEART disease is the number one killer of women in Jamaica, and it is also the leading cause of death for both men and women worldwide.
February is Heart Month, and through the Heart Institute of the Caribbean, women and men are aiming to raise heart disease awareness and change the statistics through education, prevention and action.
Last week the Heart Institute family wore the colour red in an effort to raise awareness for the Go Red for Women initiative, which is a national movement in the United States of America to end heart disease and strokes in women.
According to the American Heart Association, each year heart disease causes one in three deaths among women, or the death of approximately one woman every minute. But it doesn’t affect all women alike, and the warning signs for women aren’t the same for men.
So remember to be cognisant of the risks of heart disease and get checked to prevent a possible fatality.
