Best exercises for the summer
OUTDOOR exercise in the summer can be exhausting when the heat gets really intense. According to fitness expert Rohan Gordon, changes can be made to workout regimens in order to avoid the blazing sun.
Routines that can be done indoors:
1. Skipping
2. Waist training/cardio moves (sit-ups, push-ups, squats, jumping jacks, lunges, plank, donkey kicks, etc.)
3. Squash
4. Workout videos
5. Yoga
6. Zumba
7. Stretch exercises.
Gordon cautioned that even while working out indoors, you should make every effort to protect yourself from the heat. Too much heat can result in dizziness, nausea and heat stroke.
Here is what to do to avoid these issues.
1. Drink enough water. It is important to stay hydrated while exercising.
2. Exercise in the early morning or late evening when it is cooler.
3. Don’t go walking or jogging when the sun is at its peak.
4. Slow down.
5. If you run, jog or walk, start slowly and gradually increase your pace, but keep your pace moderate.
6. Eat balanced meals. This is essential, as your body needs the necessary nutrients to keep you going.
7. Exercise in an air-conditioned gym or in your house with the fans on. This will keep you cool.
8. If you decide to run or jog, do this in a park or any area that has trees.
9. Avoid too much clothing. Opt to wear lightweight clothes. For example, if you would normally wear shorts and tights at the same time, choose one instead.
