The truth about extreme weight makeovers
One of today’s weight loss trends is extreme rapid weight loss pushes, often seen on social media. Individuals post photos of their dramatic weight loss after using slim-fast drinks, weight loss pills, various diets, or a specific workout routine.
According to fitness trainer Rohan Gordon, it is possible to lose a good amount of weight this way, but these individuals are mostly losing water weight and not fat weight. He also warned that many of them are not truthful about the methods used and the time period within which the weight was lost. Also, some photos are Photoshopped for marketing purposes, and some people resort to surgery.
He said to see visible weight loss, it takes true determination and dedication to a drastic lifestyle change.
To achieve weight loss goals, Gordon stressed that people must be strict with their diet and exercise regimen — no cheat days are allowed.
“The first step is to increase your exercise. Be consistent in doing cardio and strength-training moves for at least 40 to 75 minutes five days a week,” Gordon urged. “You can easily start with reasonable exercises like brisk walking. Aggressive moves can be added gradually to burn more calories.”
The next step is the makeover of your diet. Start to monitor your daily calorie intake, and ensure that your meals are balanced with foods from all food groups.
Also:
•Increase your water intake.
•Drink unsweetened tea.
•Cut back on starchy foods.
•Cut back on sodium. Excessive sodium will make your body retain water, thus increasing your water weight.
•Cut back on sugar. Too many sweets will increase your insulin levels, and this limits the body’s ability to release sodium.
•Reduce the amount of alcohol that you drink.
