Doable fitness goals to get you going
THE New Year is here, and you should be ready to commence your new fitness journey. Many people have the mindset to begin a fitness routine, and even go as far as writing down their goals for the New Year. But a common problem, according to fitness trainer Rohan Gordon, is that they find it difficult to stick to these goals, which are often unrealistic. Some people plan to do workouts they cannot manage, or which are too time-consuming.
Gordon advises individuals to take things one step at a time, starting with goals you can actually achieve. You can then work your way up from there.
The list below outlines some realistic fitness goals that are achievable.
1. Train up to four times a week.
2. Drink less alcohol.
3. Eat healthy. Consuming balanced meals is pertinent to positive results from a fitness challenge.
4. Eliminate junk foods from your diet.
5. Drink more water. There are many benefits to be derived from drinking water. Remember, it flushes toxins from your system.
6. Get adequate rest between workouts. Eight hours of sleep is recommended.
7. Try something new. Participate in a 5k run/walk or go hiking.
8. Get a fitness buddy. A workout partner will definitely help to keep you motivated to continue exercising.
9. Be specific about what you want to achieve, and find the perfect routine to help you get there. For example, challenge yourself to lose 30 pounds in 2018, or target your abdominal area.
10. Allot five to 10 minutes out of your day to meditate. Meditation helps to relieve stress and reduce anxiety.
11. Do not give up. Gordon explained that many people are driven for a few weeks in January, but as February and March approach, gyms all around get quieter and quieter by the minute. As a result, people resort to their old habits. Do not let this happen to you.
