Vows: Hearts Of Steele
Friday, August 24, 2018 was the day chosen by air traffic controller at Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority Odayne Alwayne Steele and administrative support staffer at UTech Natasha Lindsay-Ann Powell to exchange vows on the lawns of Straun Castle Gardens in Stony Hill. Vows brings you the magical moments.
First encounter
Odayne and Natasha believe that their meeting was not a chance encounter but the result of divine intervention. Odayne knew there was something special about Natasha the moment he set eyes on her at an event in 2016. It took him four days to get her name. A Facebook search ensued and a message left. A solid friendship developed. Indeed, Odayne helped plan her 22nd birthday party prior to them actually becoming a couple.
Nothing happens before its time. With much prayer and consultation with spiritual leaders, they decided to give the relationship a try. The marriage proposal came on the night of April 26 and was witnessed by immediate family members and close friends.
The ceremony
The processional began as the bridesmaids, who wore burgundy chiffon dresses with gold belts and gold headpieces, were escorted up the aisle to Like I’m Gonna Lose You by Meghan Trainor featuring John Legend, and Legend’s You and I by the groomsmen, dressed in beige pants and vests with white shirts and burgundy bow ties.
Natasha made her entrance to the lyrics of Maurette Brown Clark’s The One He Kept For Me flanked by her parents, Trevor Powell and Christine Lilliard. She was picture-perfect in a white mermaid gown with lace bodice and white beaded belt from Beautiful Bride and Mr Tux. Her bridegroom, meanwhile, looked sharp in a three-piece burgundy suit with gold tie.
Guided by Pastor Sylvester Rankine the couple exchanged their vows.
The reception & honeymoon
The Grand Sunset balcony was where emcee Ivor Palmer kept things light and the mood festive for the reception, which was dubbed Hearts of Steele. The arrival of the newly-weds to the sounds of the Blue Synergy Band led to an impromptu dance-off between the bridesmaids and groomsmen.
Prayer by Oswald Powell, the bride’s grandfather, and a sumptuous dinner by the team at Straun Castle Gardens left all in good stead. Speeches followed as well as the cutting of the two-tiered fruitcake by Sherredon Palmer. The newly-weds and their guests subsequently partied the night away to a music provided by the Blue Synergy Band.
The lovebirds honeymooned at Royal Decameron Montego Beach for three nights and at Royal Decameron Club Caribbean, St Ann for two days.
