VOWS: We Found Love

Who knew that Cupid’s bow would have been directed at Nahesha Patterson and Paul Gordon? And that 13 years after their initial encounter, they would be at Laughing Waters, Ocho Rios exchanging wedding vows? Vows recounts the unfolding of their romance.

What sparked the flame

Paul and Nehesha met in the summer of 2005. Paul was the producer for her brother, a singer, and she was his back-up. After their initial meeting, it was undeniable: sparks had flown between them. Paul was hesitant, however, about taking the relationship further because of his friendship with her brother. But eventually he threw caution to the wind …

The proposal, as told by Nahesha

Twelve years after being each other’s best friend, confidants and lovers Paul decided to propose to me. We were at home and Paul decided that we would play a game. The game consisted of dice, cards, blindfolds and a hourglass. After a few rounds of the game came time to roll the dice. He picked a card, which told him to dance with me blindfolded. He picked our favourite love song, Hideaway by Tessanne Chin. While dancing I started to reminisce on how we would play this song over and over as we sang to each other as teenagers. I then felt his hands drifting slowing from mine until I no longer felt him. I started to remove the blindfold and that’s when I saw him on one knee with a ring in his hand asking me to be his wife. Of course, I said, ‘Yes!’

The ceremony

Friends and family filled the lawns of Laughing Waters beach in Ocho Rios to witness the nuptials. The bridesmaids made their way up the aisle to the strains of Major’s Why I Love You, dressed in yellow reversible dresses with turquoise barefoot sandals; and the matron of honour wore a turquoise convertible dress and yellow barefoot sandals. They were escorted by the groomsmen who wore beige pants, white shirts, brown suspenders and bow ties.

It was an emotional moment as Earl Patterson, Jnr walked his daughter up the aisle to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. Nehesha was radiant in an ivory sweetheart Maggie Sottero gown from Bliss Bridal. Eagerly awaiting his bride at the altar stood Paul, dressed in a beige suit, white shirt, and brown suspenders with matching brown tasselled loafers. The nuptials, which included a painting ceremony to symbolise unity, was officiated by Bishop Stanley Ivey.

The reception

The team from Beau Monde Events and Design brought their design artistry to the venue which they transformed into a beautiful space of turquoise and yellow complete with starfish and seashells to enhance the beach motif. The bridal party made their entrance to I Got A Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas, followed by the newly-weds who did a choreographed danced to Bruno Mars’ Marry You, cheered on by family and friends.

Guests enjoyed dinner courtesy of Nelson’s Catering Service. Formalities followed and included the unveiling and cutting of the three-tiered vanilla and fruitcake, and copious toasts to the newly-weds. Another highlight was the couple’s first dance as husband and wife to Ed Sheeran’s Perfect featuring Beyoncé. It was truly an occasion to remember!
