A Celebration Of Love

Middlesex (Middletown, Connecticut USA) Hospital Plant Operator Trevor Alexander Simpson and Jamaica Constabulary Force Superintendent Bobette Ann Morgan chose Hope United Church, St Andrew, Jamaica to become husband and wife. They exchanged vows on Saturday, September 29, 2018. Theirs was an interesting story of love. Both grew up in the Long Hill and Davyton districts of Mandeville and shared mutual friends. Sparks flew but Cupid’s arrow appeared to be left quivering when Trevor migrated to the United States and Bobette left Manchester to join the Constabulary Force.

It took the death of Trevor’s father to bring the two together. Cupid’s arrow was this time on target. The two kept in touch and visited each other periodically.

Vows picks up the story at the proposal…

The proposal

“Trevor proposed to me on August 6, 2017, at a family dinner and birthday celebration for his nephew Justin at his brother’s house in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada,” Bobette recalles.

“I was certainly surprised! As we all readied to leave after dinner his brother Clifford announced that there was something left on the agenda. Trevor then took the microphone and said, ‘Last year I came to Canada alone and was told that next time I’m coming I should not come alone, so this time around I made sure to take my friend, Bobette, with me.’ He then asked me to join him.

“He reached into his pocket and took out a small box, went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Fighting back the tears, I hugged him… thankfully someone in the crowd shouted “Yuh don’t say yes yet!” It was then that I said ‘Yes!’”

The ceremony

Loraine Ross-Clunie from Elegant Weddings handled the event. She used burgundy, gold and ivory for the church with stands of white roses with baby’s breath and ferns to adorn the aisles.

This provided the perfect backdrop for the bride who, to the melody of Ed Sheeran’s Perfect, made her way up the aisle on the arm of her father, Darius Morgan. She was beautiful in a David’s Bridal Collection ivory and champagne sheer organza and silk sleeveless lace mermaid gown. Her bridegroom, meanwhile, stood dapper in a black tuxedo. The ceremony was officiated by Reverend Christopher Mason from the Elmslie United Church, Grand Cayman, and included a sand ceremony to symbolise the joining of the couple’s families.

The reception…

took place at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel. The theme was ‘A Celebration of Love’. There were burgundy toppers over ivory table covers and centre pieces of trumpet vases with white orchids floating inside. Red, white and yellow roses, carnations, daisies, baby’s breath and ferns with palms were placed at various points around the room. Heralded by master of ceremonies Wesley “Burgerman” Burger of RJR’s Two Live Crew and a friend of the bride, the bridal party entered followed by the newly-weds to John Legend’s All Of Me. A sumptuous three-course dinner catered by the award-winning establishment followed by heartfelt toasts ahead of the cutting of the spectacular Loraine Ross-Clunie four-tiered traditional fruitcake.

The newly-weds opened the dance floor to Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud. Guests, thereafter, joined them partying into the night to the sounds of the hotel’s deejay.

The honeymoon

The couple honeymooned at Royalton Negril.

Guests added their best wishes for the couple on this life-sizecanvas.
