Vows – I Choose You

After 2,373 days of dating and 377 of being engaged, Jordan Simpson and Michelle Walker said “I do” at Prospect Chapel in St Ann on Saturday, November 24. Friends and family travelled from the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States to join local well-wishers in being witnesses at the nuptials. The wedding had all the hallmarks of a modern fairy tale — a chance meeting, a romance that endured distance and time, and two families that have measureless admiration for each other.

Dressed in a self-designed gown made to her specifications, Walker had guests gasp in delight when the doors of Prospect Chapel swung open to reveal her radiance. The groom nattily dressed in a well-fitting two-button Calvin Klein tuxedo, had tears rolling down his cheeks as, for the first time that day, he laid eyes on his beloved.

We live in an era where the term #squadgolas is bandied about. However, the Simpsons truly have a support circle of friends that is, in a word, enviable. Tears freely ran down the cheeks of bridesmaids and groomsmen alike. As the groom recited his vows the lips of his groomsmen quivered under the burden of stifled sobs. They were not only proud of seeing a close friend tie the knot, but also to have been chosen to stand by his side.

The bride’s nine bridesmaids and maid of honour, too, displayed a heartfelt outpouring of love. They knew that Walker and Simpson’s wedding day was the culmination of years of building a foundation of trust, love and faith.

Upon entering the chapel, guests were greeted by a welcome sign inscribed with the words of the Persian poet Rumi: “Lovers do not finally meet somewhere. They’re in each other all along.” Witnessing Jordan and Michelle Simpson “jump the broom” was a display of a primordial love that some would say was destined. Song of Solomon 3:4 says: “I have found the one whom my soul loves” and the Simpsons have indeed found their happily ever after.

Vows raises the curtains on a spectacular affair.
