Vows – Charting A Course To Love
David Logan and Nicole Samuels met briefly in 2013 at the Florida A&M College in Tallahassee, Florida where he was studying engineering and she, business.
After graduation David went to work as an engineer at a top pharmaceutical company in his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Nicole was accepted into a leadership development programme with Wells Fargo Bank, where she would work for them in several states before finally ending up in Raleigh.
She had only been there for a few months when a friend invited her to a house party, and whom should she run into at the party, but David! This was almost two years later. Upon their reunion, it was like, “I know you, we were in Tallahassee together”, and, as they say, the rest is history.
Five years later, on December 31, 2017 to be exact, they decided to spend New Year’s quietly at David’s home. At midnight he asked Nicole to dance to his favourite song, I Found A Girl by Ed Sheeran.
At the end of the song, David fell to one knee, in true southern gentleman style, and asked Nicole to marry him and spend the rest of their lives together. Of course, she said yes!
The couple sealed their love in front of family and close friends at Couples Swept Away Negril on Saturday, November 17, 2018, with a short ceremony in the hotel’s wedding gazebo, made even more special as David’s dad, Greg Logan, serenaded guests on the violin and Nicole’s mom, Laverne Miller Taylor, escorted her beautiful daughter up the aisle.
Cocktails followed, then a formal dinner, speeches and dancing in a beautifully decorated tent on Negril’s famous seven-mile beach.
The toasts were for the most part short and sweet – Justus Benjamin to the bride; Michael Logan to the groom; Bobby Dunn to the matron of honour/bridesmaids; and Adam Logan to the groom’s parents.
Banker Stewart Reid delivered a glowing tribute to the bride’s mom Laverne Miller Taylor, praising her “superb parenting skills and dedication” to Nicole and sister Michelle, to virtual choruses of “Amen” by all gathered.
The formal proceedings were expertly chaired by chartered accountant Leighton McKnight.
