Jamaica’s Zandrion Barnes ran a season’s best 45.13 seconds to top the qualifiers for the men’s 400m semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow, Scotland, on Tuesday.

Barnes was one of two Jamaicans to win their opening-round heats, alongside former world champion Antonio Watson, as all Jamaicans in action booked semi-final spots on Thursday.

Watson looked comfortable throughout his race, crossing the line in 46.36 seconds to secure victory in his heat. Delano Kennedy also progressed after finishing second in his heat in 45.82 seconds.

In the women’s 400m, both Jamaican athletes also booked places in the semi-finals. Shana Kaye Anderson finished second in her heat in 52.71 seconds, while Leah Anderson placed third in 52.74 seconds.

National men’s 800m record holder Navasky Anderson also advanced after finishing third in his opening-round heat in 1:48.12.

In swimming, Jamaica’s mixed 4x100m medley relay team qualified for Tuesday’s final at the Tollcross Swimming Centre.

The quartet of Collin McKenzie, Kito Campbell, Jessica Calderbank and Sabrina Lyn clocked 3:58.00 to finish third in their preliminary heat and secure a place in the final.

McKenzie also competed in the men’s 50m butterfly, placing eighth in his preliminary heat in 24.81 seconds.
