A winning ‘Allegiance’ being forged

A winning ‘Allegiance’ being forged

Following Allegiance’s encouraging victory on Saturday, January 6, 2024, trainer Anthony Nunes said that the hope is now for his three-year-old chestnut colt to progress further and develop into a worthy runner.

Allegiance‘s triumph came in a Maiden Condition event for native-bred three-year-olds at 7 furlongs. The Midnight Hawk – Princess Geeta offspring won by 3 lengths in a time of 1:30.0 (24.0 x 48.1 x 1:14.3).

Nunes said that based on his charge’s second-place finish over 6 furlongs on December 30, 2023, behind Princess Amahle, he was confident that Allegiance would produce a better effort.

“Well, this was the race for him all along. Last week the race came up cheap and we had an imported filly in the race, so we stuck him [Allegiance] in the race instead of galloping him six furlongs the morning.

“He ran well. He ran second a distance away from the winner who is a nice filly. Allegiance came out of the race in good order, so we placed him in this one. We don’t normally run our three-year-olds one week apart but he came out of the race so good and he was happy,” Nunes told the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.

Nunes then gave acknowledgement to the owners of Yardie Stables.

“It was nice to get a win for the group. Yardie Stables invested in us two years ago purchasing three weanlings and this is one of them; this was their first win also.

“Yardie Stables is 15 men and women and it is nice; it is nice for racing when a lot of people can enjoy it. We hope that Allegiance will improve and so we just going to take it one step at a time,” Nunes said.

Ridden by Raddesh Roman, Allegiance quickly gathered momentum leaving his starting barrier, immediately taking control of the race.

Allegiance held his galloped with purpose racing down the backstretch, pulling away from rivals in deep stretch to register his first success from three starts.

Blu Sensation (Dane Dawkins) was second and Oil Machine (Tevin Foster) third.
