High-flying Tru-Juice take over JPL lead

Promoted side Tru-Juice FC took over the lead in the Legend Jamaica Premier League on Sunday after beating Chapelton Maroons 1-0 at the Bramwell Clarke Sports Complex in Linstead, St Catherine.

The St Catherine-based team’s win, their third in a row, took them to 17 points, one more than Racing United who were the leaders going into the round but lost 3-4 to Treasure Beach. Meanwhile, 10 man Montego Bay United led twice but had to settle for a 2-2 draw with defending champions Portmore United at Jarrett Park.

Daniel Roberts scored a goal in second half time-added for Tru-Juice as they went atop the JPL leaderboard.

It was Roberts’ fourth goal of the season as Chapelton crashed to their third loss and stayed in eighth place.

At Ferdie Neita Park, Daniel Hardy scored his first hattrick to lead Treasure Beach to their first win of the season, edging Racing United in a seven-goal thriller.

Tajay Grant scored a brace for Racing who came back three times to tie up the scores but Hardy got the winner in time added at the end of the second half.

Hardy opened the scoring in the sixth minute but Grant drew Racing level in the 16th minute; Dahmani Miller restored the visitors’ lead in the 23rd minute but once again Grant drew the hosts level, this time from the penalty spot in the 28th minute.

Hardy scored his second to give his team the lead in the 66th minute and Racing managed once more to draw level when Nicholas Lawrence scored in the 86th minute.

Treasure Beach would not be denied however, and Hardy completed his hattrick late in the game to give the St Elizabeth-based club their first win of the season.

Despite being down to 10 players, MBU took the lead against the defending champions when Jordaine Fletcher pounced on a cross from Devonte Campbell and powered the ball past goalkeeper Robert Henry in the second minute of time added.

Portmore wasted little time getting the equaliser as Jevaughn Grant caught Barlett off his line a minute later and lobbed the ball over the head of the goalkeeper.

MBU retook the lead in the 59th minute when Fletcher repaid Campbell for his first half assist, sending him through to beat Henry from just inside the 18-yard box.

Demario Dailey however salvaged a point for Portmore when he capitalised on a mix-up in the MBU defense and scored from close range in the 77th minute.

Also on Sunday, Dunbeholden scored their second win, beating Humble Lion 3-0 with goals from Marlon Allen, Clive Wedderburn and Nevaun Turner.

Tivoli Gardens gifted Arnett Gardens before coming from behind to earn a 1-1 draw in their derby played at the Edwards Seaga Complex.

Arnett Gardens took the lead in the 64th minute though a Barrington Pryce own goal but Mickel Graham, who was a 67th minute substitute, scored the equaliser in the 88th minute.

Sunday’s Results
Montego Bay United-2 Portmore United-2
Racing United-3, Treasure Beach-4
Dunbeholden FC-3, Humble Lion FC-0
Tivoli Gardens FC-1, Arnett Gardens-1
Tru-Juice FC-1, Chapelton Maroons-0
