Bern Notice earns another winner for trainer Michael Marlowe
WHILE the 2022 racing season didn’t flash the numbers he would have liked, trainer Michael Marlowe says he is expecting a better showing from his stables for the 2023 season of thoroughbred racing at Caymanas Park.
Marlowe saddled two winners on the last day of racing in 2022 to end the season with 16 winners. This season so far, Marlowe has saddled five winners from 71 starts, which has placed him at position number 10 in the current trainers’ standing.
“We were happy that we closed last year well; sixteen winners for the year is not bad. The last part of the year has given us a boost as it has been tough, but we are putting it together and hoping for a better 2023. To saddle five winners so far is a good thing,” Marlowe said in an interview with The Supreme Racing Guide.
“It [winners] should have been more but it is as it goes with horse racing. I always finish the year well and so I am looking forward to a successful season this year, especially with the young horses coming out,” Marlowe added.
Marlowe’s latest winner came on Saturday, April 15 when five-year-old chestnut horse Bern Notice made all to win a three-year-old and upwards Claiming ($750,000-$600,000) event over 7 furlongs. (1,400m). Bern Notice, ridden by Trevor Simpson, won by 13 lengths ahead of High Diplomacy (Raddesh Roman) and Inspired Miracle (Ameth Robles) in a time of 1:28.3 (24.2 x 48.0 x 1:14.1).
“This horse is a full brother to Blue Vinyl, and so we knew he could run. It was a good performance coming off nearly a four-month break as he did well to win the race. He is a horse with talent and should continue to do well,” said Marlowe.
