#CariftaGames2023: Nkrumie suffers Grade 1 hamstring tear at CARIFTA
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan has confirmed that Jamaican sprinter Bouwahjgie Nkrumie suffered a Grade 1 tear to his hamstring in Saturday’s first round of the Under 20 boys 100m at the 50th CARIFTA Games being held at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.
Team manager Richard Thompson told OBSERVER ONLINE on Sunday that the procedure, which was done on Saturday, confirmed the level of the injury.
“Nkrumie, in fact, did an MRI and the result is showing a grade one hamstring injury,” Thompson said, adding that the athlete was in a good mood.
“He has accepted that fact and is in high spirits, encouraging his other teammates,” Thompson added.
Nkrumie, who ran a personal best 9.99 seconds to win the Boys Class 1 100m at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships last weekend, was expected to battle for the gold medal at the CARIFTA Games.
He got off to a good start in his heat on Saturday morning and led up to the 80m mark before slowing down, grabbing his right leg.
