Jamaica’s run in the women’s FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup 2022 tournament being played outside the FTX Arena in Miami, Florida, ended in the quarterfinals on Sunday after they were beaten 17-9 by Colombia.

The Jamaicans had qualified for the play-offs on Friday after topping Pool C with wins over Chile and Argentina and advancing to Sunday’s quarterfinals.

They had beaten Chile 18-17 and then toppled world ranked Argentina 12-8 on Friday but ran out of steam against Colombia on Sunday. Morgan Green scored five points to lead the Jamaicans as Tracey-Ann Kelly scored two points and Ashalee Gordon and Tashawna Higgins both scoring a point each.

Jenifer Munoz David scored seven points to lead Colombia while Yuliany Perea and Valentin Montoya both scored four points each.

Meanwhile, Jamaica’s men’s team failed to get past the first qualifying round, losing to St Lucia and Barbados after getting a walk-over win over Colombia on Friday’s opening day.

Thirty-one teams are taking part in the three-day event, 18 in the men’s and 13 in the women’s competitions.
