WATCH: Seven arrested for extortion in Half-Way-Tree
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Seven men were arrested in Half-Way-Tree, St Andrew, on Wednesday after personnel from the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch continued Operations Transportation Streamline where extortionists of private passenger vehicle (PPV) operators within the Corporate Area are targeted.
In addition to being arrested for extortion, the men were brought into custody for breaches of the Main Road Act, and being in possession of offensive weapons.
The arrests of these individuals is in keeping with a joint commitment by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Transport Authority and Island Traffic Authority to substantially improve safety and security as well as safe movement of people within the transportation sector. These operations will be conducted the entire island.
“Persons who aim to disrupt the sector and cause mayhem will be arrested repeatedly until they earn themselves long jail time,” the police said.
