4 Jamaicans cop spots in top 25 chefs of the Caribbean
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Four Jamaicans copped spots in the Caribbean Journal’s top 25 chefs of the region in 2014.
Brian Lumley, who landed at number eight, has experienced great success at just 27-years-old. He took home the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association’s Caribbean Chef-of-the-Year honour in 2013. And now he is doing “extremely well in his latest venture”, a restaurant called 689 by Brian Lumley in New Kingston.
Collin Brown, a native of Trelawny, was number 14. “Chef Collin Brown has taken Caribbean food to the most discerning eaters in the United Kingdom and Europe. Now, he’s quickly building a budding culinary empire,” Caribbean Journal said.
At number 23 is Nigel Spence. Spence has made multiple appearances on the Food Network where he competed against celebrity chef Bobby Flay in a jerk rib-eye grill off and won.
“The Kingston native continues to impress at his widely-praised Ripe Kitchen & Bar outside of New York City. Spence, who is also a CJ contributor, is working to take Jamaican cuisine to the next level,” said the Journal.
And Sarah Mair, at number 20, is a former Executive Chef at Ortanique Camana Bay in Grand Cayman. Mair has now set out on her own path with her new venture, ‘Cookin n Tings’.
