MONTEGO BAY, St James — Howard Cooke Primary and Anchovy Primary will both be seeking to improve their chances of getting out of the first round of the St James Football Association Under-13 competition this morning when the action continues with a double-header at Corinaldi Avenue Primary.

Howard Cooke Primary face Bickersteth Primary in a Zone C game staring at 10:00 am, followed by Anchovy Primary and Pinnacle Academy in a Zone B game set for 11:30 am.

A win for both would see them improve to second place in their respective groups and secure a shot at advancing from the zone.

Howard Cooke have three points after beating St James Prep in their most recent game, while Bickersteth have lost both games played so far.

Anchovy are on four points from their last two games after losing their opening encounter to Irwin Primary.

Four teams have already secured their places in the next round — Flankers Primary from Zone A, Barracks Road Primary from Zone C as well as Corinaldi Avenue Primary and Catherine Hall from Zone D.

Holders Granville Primary moved up to second place in Zone A on Thursday after beating Maldon Primary 8-1 with two players getting braces, but Green Pond Primary’s hopes of advancing took a hit after they were held 1-1 by St James Prep in Zone C.

Ameche Robinson got a double in the first half and Daquan Carnisse had one in the second half while Alex Grant, Julian Fowler, Clifford Franklin and Fenmour Robinson all scored one goal each.

Rohan Dowe scored the consolation goal for Maldon, his third goal of the season.

Antoine Rowe scored his fourth goal of the season, in the 11th minute, to give St James Prep the lead but Nicholas Wallace pulled one back on the stroke of full-time to give Green Pond a share of the points.

On Wednesday, Corinaldi Avenue Primary sent a clear message about their title ambitions after a big 8-0 win over Catherine Hall Primary in their Zone D game.

The win took Corinaldi Avenue Primary to the top on goal difference, with both schools on nine points, and also confirmed their place in the quarter-finals.

Also on Wednesday, Montego Bay Prep scored their first win, beating Dumfries Primary 4-0.

In the feature game Catherine Hall, who had won their first three games, were down 3-0 when they were dealt a further blow after goalkeeper Orlando Getten was injured in a collision with one of his own players and had to be substituted.

Carlando Morrison led the goalscoring spree for Corinaldi with four to take his overall tally to eight goals, scoring in the sixth, eighth, 37th and 32nd minutes; Kaneil Saunders had a second-half brace, scoring in the 43rd and 45th minutes; while Recardo Esmie in the 35th and Mekhi Foster in the 47th minutes also got on the scoresheet.

Othnel Gordon got a brace for Montego Bay Prep in their win over Dumfries, scoring in the fourth and 14th minutes, while Tadre Dixon added a third in the 18th minute and Ryan Paris scored a header in the 46th minute.
