MILTON Peach, the current governor of the Eastern Canada and the Caribbean District of Kiwanis, is scheduled to arrive in Jamaica next Monday for an official visit.

Peach, who will be hosted by Kiwanis lieutenant governor William “Rudi” Ricketts, will be the special guest at an all clubs dinner on February 12 at Le Meridien Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston.

Earlier that day, he will pay courtesy calls on Governor-General Sir Howard Cooke and Canadian High Commissioner to Jamaica John Robinson.

Peach has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Carbonear, Newfoundland since 1981. He was elected president of his home club in 1995 and was president of the Trinity-Conception Kiwanis Music Festival from 1996 to 1997 and 1998-1999.

Peach holds a BA in Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland and has been a licensed funeral director since 1985. He was a junior high school teacher from 1961 to 1982 before going into politics, having been elected as a government member in Newfoundland’s Provincial Legislature in 1982 where he served until 1989.

He also served as a parliamentary secretary and a member of the Provincial Cabinet in two portfolios — minister of housing and minister of fisheries.

In 1989, Peach became chief of staff to the leader of the opposition, a position he held until 1991. He was also mayor of his home town, Carbonear, for three terms, starting in 1977 and ending in 1997.
