Don’t miss out on Skipping Sue in today’s feature
Even babes and sucklings turned out for the second edition of Sunday racing at Caymanas Park last Sunday where they were well provided for with coney park rides and bounce-abouts. This picture captures a section of the large crowd where both adults and children mingled for the exciting day’s racing that included the rare spectacle of a goat race which was popular with the crowd. Don’t miss out on Skipping Sue in today’s feature

ROBERT Lee’s consistent three-year-old grey filly Skipping Sue who was 2 1/2 lengths short of perfect on last looks to be a very good choice to go one better in the $715,000 Titania Trophy feature at Caymanas Park today.

A Restricted Allowance 11 native-bred three-year-olds and upward fillies and mares (NW2) race over 1,100 metres, Skipping Sue will face a competitive field of 13 in the principal feature of a well-supported 11-race programme with two trophies along with the expectant Track Price Plus “Dig Out” Handicap (race #38) for a purse of $458,000 on offer. The other trophy race on the card is the $528,000 Paul Newman Memorial Cup, a mid table event for $450,000-$400,000 claimers three-year-olds and upward over 1,600 metres. First post is noon.

Top apprentice Richard Mairs, who was aboard Skipping Sue on last, will again ride for trainer Eraldo Fullerton in the 1,100 metres speed test and will face 13 rival three-year-old fillies.

Skipping Sue is a chestnut daughter of He’stherealthing out of Skip By (Skip Trial) who opened her racing career with a win and a second-place finish as a two-year-old. Since then she has ran 11 times as a three-year-old with her last four races the most promising with twice finishing second and once third.

A speedy filly, Skipping Sue was a good second to Sapphire by a head over 1,200 metres and also finishing in the same position to Patara by 2 1/2 lengths over 1,300 metres on last. This was after she led for 1,100 metres with fractions of 23.4, 47.3 and 1:12.2 for 1,200 metres. That was just over a month ago.

She is, however, ready for battle once again and with the distance reduced she will be even more comfortable over same and it will take a mighty good performance from one of her rivals to deny her this trophy event.

A definite threat on her best form in today’s encounter is Runin On Empty with Trevor Simpson up and Milestone with title-chasing jockey Paul Francis in the irons. Both have very good credentials for winning the event with Milestone with top weight of 55.5kg will give a very good account of herself with the figure eight added to her equipment.
