Kensingston, KSAC, JDF, St Mary score wins in Senior Cup

In the sixth round of the Jamaica Cricket Association Senior Cup, runaway Group A leaders Kensington walloped Boys’ Town by an innings and 55 runs in less than a day to move to 28 points.

Batting first, the visiting Boys’ Town team were dismissed for 50, as Ryan Francis took five wickets for 15 runs, while Dennis Bulli took four for 18 at Kensington Park. Kensington then declared on 150 without loss as Jeffrey Scott and Ranville Brown made unbeaten knocks of 80 and 58, respectively.

At their second turn at the crease, Boys’ Town were bundled out for 45, as Upston Edwards took five for 15 to push Kensington to their fourth win of the season.

At Prison Oval, St Catherine Cricket Association got their second victory when they hammered Kingston and St Andrew Corporation by nine wickets. Schoolboy Peat Salmon made 79 and Domain Wright made 74 to help the home team to 237 all out. Coi Thompson then ended with a match haul of seven for 53, as KSAC were dismissed for paltry scores 120 and 128. The home team then reached 13 for the loss of one wicket to achieve victory.

At Folly Oval, Portland snatched first-innings points away from Lucas in their game. Batting first, Lucas made 82 as Carl Brissett took five for 22. Emilio Reid then struck 48 as the home team replied with 123 against Gary Herbine’s five for 35.

Wayne Gayle (72) and Geoffrey Laing (30) then helped Lucas to 228 for nine declared against Brissett’s four for 67, which left Portland a target of 188 to claim full points. They reached 119 for four at close of play as Ramon Senior took two for 16.

In Group B, Jamaica Defence Force took sole leadership, as they beat cellar team St James by an innings and 13 runs at Up Park Camp. The visitors could only manage scores of 149 and 145. Akbar Moodie (six for 36) and Garland Palmer (four for 14) restricted them in either innings.

JDF had amassed 307 for five declared in their lone innings, as Bereston Reid scored 131 and Sheldon Cottrell smashed a quickfire 102 against Adrian Allen’s three for 56.

At Elletson Road, St Mary sneaked a four-run victory over Police to move up to fourth place on 15 points. After securing a first-innings lead of 58, the visitors declared on 220 for seven, as Tyson Gordon cracked 86.

Set a target of 279 for victory, Police chased boldly thanks to an even hundred from Lerone Tyrell and 50 from Renford Boadie before folding for 274. Domain Wilson took three for eight.

Hanover moved up to joint second in the standings with Clarendon after securing first-innings points in their crucial match-up.

Centuries from Kennar Lewis and Jermaine Blackwood pushed Hanover to 312 for nine declared. Clarendon then responded with 193 all out with Omar Knight making 78 against Kenneth Beckford’s five for 32. Batting a second time, Clarendon had reached 80 for three when play was called off.
