Roswell clocks PB 12.40 seconds to win 100m hurdles national title
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Demisha Roswell’s patience paid off after she ran a brilliant personal best 12.40 seconds (0.7m/s) to win the 100m hurdles title on Sunday’s final day of the JAAA national championships at the National Stadium, beating a quality field.
Her time, which beat her previous best of 12.44 seconds, ranks her fourth in the world and joint fifth best with Janeek Brown on the Jamaican all time list.
Roswell held her form under pressure to beat pre-championships favourite Megan Simmonds-12.47 seconds and Kerrica Hill, who was third with 12.67 seconds.
Demario Prince won the 110m hurdles with a season’s best 13.13 seconds (0.2m/s), also his first national title, beating Jerome Campbell- 13.35 seconds and Sharvis Simmonds who was third with 13.39 seconds.
Marquies Page of St Jago produced a late burst to win the Under-20 boys 110m hurdles in 13.34 seconds (1.8m/s), just getting to the finish line ahead of Kingston College’s Tajoneil Gordon-13.37 seconds and Noel Wright who was third with 13.55 seconds.
The Wolmer’s Girls pair of Tiana Marshall- 13.10 seconds (1.7m/s) and Akeelah Bell- 13.33 seconds, finished first and second respectively in the Under-20 girls final with Edwin Allen’s Tashana Godfrey third with 13.40 seconds.
