It was an evening of fashion, music and the mixing of fragrances last Sunday at Prince D Bruce on Central Avenue in Kingston. Owner, Edwin Bruce hosted the finalists in the 2025 Miss Universe Jamaica East pageant.

The proceedings kicked off with a saxophonist who thrilled the attendees with a musical selection. Recently formed trio Rising Sun (comprising singers Irie Souljah, Matthew Malcolm and Quan Dajai, best known for his role as a young Bob Marley in the Bob Marley: One Love biopic) whipped the crowd into a frenzy when they performed their original song Prime Time.

Prime Time was produced by Silly Walks Discotheque out of Germany.

Irie Souljah explained how the trio came together.

“Friends that love to sing, we gathered together and started harmonizing with each other. The energy and the good vibe, the forces put us together,” said Irie Souljah.

A short fashion show featuring models Morata Murdock, Tian Gordon and Kimbery Hanson, featured designer Rachel Fenderson’s Pepper Jacques line, which showcased the Supernova Collection.

“We showcased 12 pieces comprising swimsuits, cover ups and evening wear. The outfits were inspired by 90s dancehall,” said Fenderson, who is from Queens, New York. Her parents are originally from St Thomas.

According to Edwin Bruce, he decided to host the young ladies to provide a form of empowerment.

“I always want to empower young ladies, because I have been involved in pageants. I try to support all of them. I wanted this to be a confidence boost. The village that raises them, continues to exist,” Bruce told Observer Online.

The coronation of Miss Universe Jamaica East 2025 will take place on April 5 at the Wolmer’s Boys Auditorium.
