Carter files appeal
KINGSTON, Jamaica — As was expected sprinter Nesta Carter has filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) as he continues his fight against a doping confirmation by the IOC as a result of a retest of his sample from the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.
Bruce James, president of the MVP track Club confirmed today that the 31-year-old Carter will be going to CAS in an effort to get the charge reversed.
Carter, who has led off the powerful Jamaican men sprint relay teams that also included triple World Record holder Usain Bolt, was found to have had a banned stimulant, methylhexaneamine, in his system during a retest of his sample from the 2008 Olympics.
As a result the Jamaican team was stripped of the gold medal they had won while running a then World Record 37.10 seconds.
Carter — the 2013 IAAF World Championships 100-metre bronze medallist and a World Indoor champion — who was also injured for most of last season, returned to competitive track and field after a 17 month layoff last week when he ran the anchor leg of the MVP team at the Milo Western Relays in Montego Bay on Saturday.
