Happy Independence Day Grenada

WASHINGTON (CMC) – The United States has congratulated Grenada as it celebrates its 42nd anniversary of political independence from Great Britain on Sunday, saying that the island’s focus on sustainable tourism development “allows visitors from across the globe to enjoy the pristine beaches and natural beauty of your country.”

On behalf of President Barack Obama and the people of the United States, US Secretary of State, John Kerry, said the St George’s University is “a wonderful multicultural center of international education that draws students from 140 countries, showcasing the welcoming spirit of Grenada and a world-class educational institution.”

“Your participation in the Caribbean Community (CARIOM), the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative, and the Caribbean Energy Security Initiative demonstrate Grenada’s willingness to work closely with neighboring countries to address the region’s challenges and harness the region’s opportunities,” Kerry said.

“As you celebrate another year of independence, know that the people of the United States wish you a joyful day and a strengthening of the friendship between our countries,” he added.

And Grenada’s newly appointed Ambassador to China, Dennis Antoine, said “after 42 years of independence, our nation reflects maturity.

“Having endured many years and numerous challenges, the state of Grenada Carriacou and Petit Martinique still mirrors resiliency and healing,” said Antoine, a former Grenada Ambassador to the United States, the Organization of American States and the United Nations.

“In our endeavor to consolidate our fate as one people, the future of our nation, without a doubt, relies on the strength and courage of each generation, to remain focused on the vision proclaimed by our founding fathers, and mothers, and the sacrifice of all citizens, and friends, who have ransomed,” he added.

“Respect must be given and honor declared to those who carry on today the process of selfless contribution to building and strengthening our nation,” Antoine continued.

He said striving towards Grenada’s destiny requires “extraordinary faith and courage and oneness with unquestionable purpose.

“Citizens of Grenada Carriacou and Petit Martinique, in our pursuit, we must heed the relentless call of our leader, who has shown courage and faith in the belief that we, as one people will choose unity over contention, and division,” the envoy said.
