House collapses during heavy rain in Port Antonio
PORTLAND, Jamaica — A two-bedroom board house at East Baptist Avenue collapsed Thursday morning during heavy rainfall in Port Antonio, the parish capital.
Owner of the wooden structure Anthony Myrie said that the house collapsed about 11:45 am with his eight-year-old son inside.
“I was outside parking a vehicle in the yard and my son was inside. I only see the crumbling but I never saw when the house went down. I ran towards the house and tried to get my son out and I then secured my documents”, Myrie said.
“A television just hit him in the head and he was taken to the doctor and is back. It’s not too serious” he added.
Myrie said his stove, television set, fridge, small appliances and beds were damaged. He and his son were the only occupants of the house.
He is presently temporary accommodated by his neighbour.
