House of Representatives sitting delayed
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Gordon House has advised that the sitting of the House of Representatives scheduled for next Tuesday afternoon, has been postponed.
No explanation for the postponement was included in the e-mail sent to the press by Parliament, but OBSERVER ONLINE has learnt that the delay is due primarily to the unavailability of information required from the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service for the meeting.
Parliament was dissolved on February 5 to make way for the February 25 General Election. The election resulted in a change of government. Members of the new Parliament were sworn in on March 10.
One of the first requirements of the new Parliament is to approve a carrying-on allowance to finance government’s operation, until the 2016/17 budget becomes effective.
