JLP postpones conference to campaign for election
KINGSTON, Jamaica — In an unprecedented move, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has decided to forego its usual conference staged in November annually as the country awaits the announcement of a general election date.
“The planning committee has taken the decision that there will be four conferences in the area council which will elect the party officers. All positions which are usually elected at conference will be done at the four area council conferences,” JLP General Secretary Dr Horace Chang told OBSERVER ONLINE a short while ago.
He said the party decided strategically, that the decision is what is best at this time.
He said the party has looked at the way things have been evolving and has conceded that this is the best way to approach it, in light of the pending general election.
