MAJ condemns killing of doctor
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ) has condemned the gruesome killing of one of its colleagues, Dr Martin Garwood, and extends sincere condolences to his family. Read: UPDATE: Cops believe killer fled in doctor’s car, appeal for info
An MAJ release on Thursday said that Garwood “had just completed life saving surgery on another citizen of Jamaica just a few hours before his own life was prematurely and violently taken.”
“His death has robbed Jamaica of the services of an affable, caring and dedicated young surgeon with tremendous potential. This senseless act reminds us of the great inhumanity of man towards man, and the scant regard that so many persons have for life.”
The group added that, “this callousness is at the heart of our chronic crime problems. It is our hope that the investigations will result in swift capture of those responsible so that justice will be delivered in short order.”
Reports from the police are that Garwood was found Wednesday with multiple stab wounds inside his apartment after his colleagues went in search of him when he didn’t turn up for work.
