KINGSTON, Jamaica — Magistrate Maxine Ellis last week reprimanded a woman who confessed to beating her teenage daughter with a broomstick, after she found out she was sending “outrageous” messages on social media website Facebook.

Stacy-Ann White pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.?

“Two little 13-year-old a text on Facebook and you take a broomstick and swell up your daughter. You should invite him over for lemonade and tell them that it is not appropriate. Thirteen-year-old should go to Devon House and buy ice cream, they should go to the movie and hold hands in the park,” Magistrate Ellis said.??

In her defence, White told the court that prior to the incident she had told her daughter that she was not allowed to use Facebook.?

“Anything happens to her now she’s not going to tell you. You drive the fear of God in her. We should be parenting our children right. Some people batter bruise dem pickney and kill them off because dem want the best for them,” the magistrate said.??

Reports are that on October 4, White used a broomstick to hit her 13-year-old daughter all over her body.

??A December 9 mention date was subsequently set for her to return to court.
