Mother charged for beating death of son
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A mother, charged with manslaughter after her 14-year-old son died in hospital following a beating over a cellphone, was offered J$400,000 bail when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The mother, Marion Davis, denied the allegations.
The court was told that on August 29, Davis and her son Kamell Turner had a dispute over a cellphone during which he was beaten and left crying in severe pain.
Turner was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died the following day.
On Friday, attorney-at-law C J Mitchell, who represents the mother, disassociated her from the death of her son. He told the court that the teenager was suffering from a tumour, suggesting that the beating had nothing to do with his death.
