Murder accused asks magistrate to see prophet
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A young man who claims he is unable to remember the murder with which he has been charged, yesterday requested to see his doctor and a prophet when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Franz Simpson, 23, is charged with the October 10, 2015 murder of Damion White.
The court heard that the accused and the now deceased were involved in a dispute when a broken bottle and a knife were brought into the fight.
During the clash, the now deceased was injured and was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
When Simpson appeared in court yesterday, he told Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey that he did not know why he was in court, but recalled that on the last occasion he had asked to see a doctor.
“I would like to go and see Dr Leveridge. I would feel more comfortable,” he said.
But RM Pusey told him to try someone new.
“I want to see a prophet also,” he added.
In replying to him, the magistrate said: “I am a prophet, you can talk to me.”
Simpson was subsequently remanded for a psychiatric evaluation and is to return to court on February 15.
