Neighbourhood Watch groups in east Kingston urged to assist police
KINGSTON, Jamaica — President of the National Neighbourhood Watch Secretariat Rudolph Moore on Tuesday issued an appeal to members of the neighbourhood watch groups in east Kingston to do everything they can to assist the police, following the brutal murder of a 17-month-old baby in the area.
Moore also extended the appeal to members of the McIntyre Villa community as he expressed “outrage and abhorrence” at the killing of the child and a man last Friday on Banana Street in the area commonly known as Dunkirk.
The murders led to a reprisal attack on a family at Bryden Street, also in Dunkirk.
In the second incident the parents of a two-month-old child were shot and injured. However, the baby was unharmed.
Following both incidents, police launched a manhunt for the two groups of men believed to have been involved and installed a curfew on McIntyre Villa.
Checks by OBSERVER ONLINE Tuesday have revealed that no one has been arrested for the shooting incidents.
On Saturday Deputy Commissioner of Police Glenmore Hinds moved to assure residents and also appealed for assistance in the investigations.
“I am assuring the residents that the police will not relent until those responsible are caught. I am also appealing to those with any information to come forward and tell the police what they know,” said DCP Hinds.
Anyone with information regarding the shootings is being asked to contact the police emergency number at 119, Crime Stop at 311, the Elletson Road CIB at 928-4200, or the nearest police station.
