New tropical depression forms south of Cape Verde Islands
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological Service of Jamaica says at 10:00 am the centre of newly formed Tropical Depression Seven was located near Latitude 12.3 degrees north and Longitude 25.2 degrees west or about 430 km south southwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
Tropical Depression Seven is moving toward the west near 22 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue during the next two days.
Maximum sustained winds are near 55 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is possible during the next 48 hours, and the depression could become a tropical storm on Sunday.
The Met Service said Tropical Depression Seven is not a threat to Jamaica.
