PNP Region 3 endorses Imani for St Andrew East Rural
KINGSTON, Jamaica – OBSERVER ONLINE has learnt that People’s National Party (PNP) Senator Imani Duncan Price was last night endorsed by the St Andrew East Rural constituency executive to represent the party in upcoming parliamentary elections.
The endorsement was confirmed by Phillip Paulwell, chairman of the PNP’s Region Three, even though the party is yet to make an official announcement.
Region Three covers the party’s Kingston and St Andrew constituencies.
Duncan Price is being ushered into the constituency following the rejection of Peter Blake by the party’s integrity commission.
Blake defeated incumbent Member of Parliament Damion Crawford in a selection run-off among delegates last month, polling 217 votes to Crawford’s 166.
The challenge to Crawford emerged after he announced that he would not be seeking re-election. Crawford admitted that he was not convinced at the time of his announcement that the style of politics he brought to the constituency would propel him to victory at the polls. He later made an about-turn, saying that his earlier announcement was a trick.
The seat was previously won by the JLP’s Joseph Hibbert in 2002 and 2007; the PNP’s Oliver Clue in 1993 and 1997; the PNP’s E G Barrett in 1989; and the Jamaica Labour Party’s Joan Gordon-Webley in 1980.
