Rates increased at Portmore Toll booth
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Motorists who use the Portmore leg of Highway 2000 started paying increased toll rates today, Saturday June 5.
With an increase of $20, the new rate for drivers of Class One vehicles moves to $170, while Class Two vehicles attract a fee of $260, up by $30.
Class Three vehicles are now required to pay $520, reflecting a $70 jump in the fee.
In late June when the toll increase was announced, Opposition Spokesman on Transport, Dr Horace Chang, labelled it as anti-people and anti-business.
He argued that the higher toll would be yet another burden on the backs of Jamaicans, especially residents of the Portmore community who are already suffering because of the policies of the government.
However, CEO of the Toll Authority, Joan Fletcher told the Observer on Wednesday, June 18 that the Toll Authority received no negative public responses to the proposed increase.
