KINGSTION, Jamaica — Jamaica Scorpions were left struggling at 69-6, 95 runs behind the Leeward Island Hurricanes at the end of day one in their fourth-round WICB Professional Cricket League (PCL) four-day match here at Sabina Park on Friday.

A five-wicket haul by left-arm pacer Sheldon Cottrell who was playing his first game since the start of the season had earlier placed the Scorpions a strong position restricting the Hurricanes to a sub-standard 164.

 However, the dismal display of batting on the day continued as the Scorpions also lost wickets in quick succession.

Carlton Baugh Jr and Nikita Miller not out on eight and zero respectively, will resume batting for the Scorpions on day two. Play is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.

Left-hand opener John Campbell is the only batsman to get into double figures so far with a knock of 28 after dominating a steady 38-run opening stand with captain Paul Palmer Jr.

Earlier, a composed knock of 51 not out by Jamar Hamilton had propelled the Hurricanes to 164 after a poor start at 59-4 at lunch.

Nkrumah Bonner (35) and Chesney Hughes (25) were the next best scorers.

Cottrell ended with 5-35 from 13 overs which includes five maidens, supported by Nikita Miller who had 4-53 and Damion Jacobs 1-27.
