Two debtors charged on forgery allegations
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The police have charged two women for allegedly defrauding a loan agency in St Andrew.
They are 40-year-old Cheryl Madden, an accountant of Arnett Gardens, St Andrew and 32-year-old Camille Martin, a secretary of Johnson Terrace, Kingston.
Allegations are that the two visited a loan agency in St Andrew and applied for several personal loans amounting to five million dollars for themselves and others, the police Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said in a release.
In support of the applications, it is reported that they submitted several documents, which included pay slips and salary deduction authorization forms in their names and that of other applicants, CCU added.
The loans were reportedly processed, approved and the money disbursed to the accused by cheques.
According to CCU, the loan accounts went into arrears and subsequent checks revealed that the pay slips and salary deduction authorisation forms were false. A report was then made at the Fraud Squad.
Madden and Martin were subsequently arrested and charged for forgery, uttering forged documents and obtaining money by means of forged document. They are to appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court next Friday.
