UTech mourns loss of med student
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A thick cloud of gloom hangs over the University of Technology today following last night’s incident where a student was gunned down while heading home from school.
The woman, identified as Shanique Walters, was shot dead last night in Hope Pastures, St Andrew during a reported robbery.
“The death of this student has left us all in shock, Darrian McGhann, president of UTECH Student Union Council told OBSERVER ONLINE.
He made the comment as he spoke to a group of mourning students.
Police reports are that Walters and another female student were walking along Hope Boulevard when men in a motorcar demanded that the two hand over their handbags.
Walters allegedly ran off and one of the men exited the motor vehicle then shot her. The other student, who had reportedly complied was unharmed.
