Unruly motorists worry cops
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police say a trend is developing where motorcyclists are travelling around with flashing lights similar to those used by members of the island security forces.
“It is something we are seeing and will be moving to clamp down on,” a senior member of the Police High Command said.
“We want to get the message out there that this sort of practice is illegal and must stop,” said the police.
He said they are concerned about the wanton disregard that motorist continue to show for law and order and believe this sort of practice is one of the main reasons they are involved in so many fatal crashes.
The lawman said there has been a 90 per cent jump in the number deaths involving motorcyclists for this year when compared to last year this time.
Over the corresponding period last year, approximately 40 motorcyclists were killed on the island’s roads the lawman added.
